An unremarkable library receives an anonymous bequest – an extensive collection of rare Alice in Wonderland editions, including the rarest of all. “Alice in Slaughterland” is an edition of one, written in human blood. The blood of young girls, kidnapped by a young soldier returned home from WWII. Traumatised by the horrors of the battlefield he has retreated into a fantasy world, the world of Wonderland. But as the years pass his imaginary home becomes darker and more twisted and demands some kind of release...
It is an ordinary evening in the library, calm and quiet as libraries usually are. Staff and patrons go about their bookish business. No-one notices a strange light glowing in the dimness of the Rare Books Archive. No-one hears the rustling, or sees the oddly-shaped footprints... and then someone goes missing.
Now staff and patrons must fight for their lives against the most psychotic creatures in the history of literature. Can a bunch of misfits and quiet academics possibly have what it takes to defeat the forces of evil? Can mild-mannered librarians rise to the challenge? Is the pen REALLY mightier than the sword?
