Three teenage boys with a fascination for professional wrestling, struggle to fit in after making the change to High school. The boys (Troy, Brain, and Ally) decide to make a backyard-wrestling club, where they act as their own wrestling identities in their ‘Triple W Wrestling’ promotion filmed on a video camera.
Eventually Triple W becomes exposed after a neighbour hood kid spies in on them as they are filming. This leads to the boys becoming victims by a group of bullies for months on end. The boys consider finishing their newfound hobby before doing one last show. So the cameras come out, the ring (a trampoline) decorated, and the costumes ready for one last go, when the bullies show up during the event.
In an act of panic, Troy puts his body on the line in a moment of courage and stupidity to pull off a remarkably painful wrestling stunt. This leaves all the boys in shock, and sends Troy to the hospital with a week off school.
When he returns, the Triple W boys turn from zero to hero, with their backyard wrestling becoming the popular trend of the town. Soon enough, Triple W turns from a group of boys acting out their hero’s on the trampoline, to a regional promotion selling DVD’s at local schools, featuring head boys, rugby heads, girlfriends, with a monthly event staged in Troy’s backyard.
But with popularity comes the consequences. Once Triple W reaches its heights of success, the unlikely downfall comes in the form of jealous senior students, which plan to break Triple W and all that it is.
Backyard Immortals is a story of first loves and first heartaches, the friends you trust and the ones that turn on you. It is also a story of taking people for granted and what it means to stay true to yourself.
