In an attempt to prevent panic, social disintegration and anarchy after a solar flare shrouds the sky in a perennial red hue, the government passes a law stating that all people must enter into a romantic relationship, successfully manipulating the public into believing that this is a sign from above that there is not enough love in their hearts. In the meantime, Katie, a woman in her late teens and not experienced in the ways of love becomes enamoured by a handsome yet reclusive stranger named David. She is overjoyed when her seemingly unobtainable conquest is successful and deems herself and David to be the perfect couple. However, she is surprised when a darker side of David comes out- a side that becomes more distant and threatening as time goes on. Conflicted by her infatuation and by her distorted sensibility of the state of her relationship, Katie struggles to keep her head above water, while David's secret is threatening to put an end to the entire relationship.
