Food Court

A “Noggin Films” FILM
WRITTEN BY Greg Buckley / Scott Kelso

In the cutthroat world of retail ethic cuisine, one food court stall owner emerges each year victorious – Proudly being able to pin to the wall just below their photocopied health department rating – The Top Shop award.

The Yang family have won the award three years running, but not without controversy. The kitchens across the food court having been burning with rumours as to the measures the Yang family has taken to ensure their success. Nancy, Teo Yang’s eldest daughter – mans the counter at the Yang family’s stall serving customers their award winning dumplings and acting as the gatekeeper to the Yang family’s inner sanctum – Their Kitchen.

In a sea of faces Nancy seldom picks anybody out, but when George orders his daily dumplings, Nancy takes notice. Unsure whether it’s the award winning dumplings or something else bringing George back, Nancy plays it cool – till one day George proposes the unthinkable, by putting cultural conventions to one side and suggesting Nancy spend her 15 minute break with him over a bubble tea.

Their relationship begins to blossom in 15-minute moments, til...Nancy returns from the cardboard compactor to find George strewn out on the food court floor being worked on by paramedics.

With the finger now firmly pointed toward the Yang Family Dumplings as the culprit of George’s demise and the disqualification from Top Shop imminent, Nancy has to decide…. For love… or for Mummy?
