After failing to sell his third straight novel, and having recently been dumped by his long-term girlfriend, Michael Davis finds himself on the verge of a financial and emotional breakdown. But when he receives news of his father’s untimely death, his own troubles are put into perspective. With the little money he has left, Michael ventures north to farewell his father and receive his portion of the will - a boat, some fishing gear, and a small Northland home - including the mortgage.
Now broke, and with no immediate job prospects, Michael makes the difficult decision to sell his father’s belongings. But when he learns of a local fishing competition offering a $50,000 first prize to whoever catches the largest snapper, Michael decides to give it a crack. The only problem? Michael can’t fish.
With the bank breathing down his neck, and with only a week until the competition, can Michael learn the art of fishing, or will this be another case of the one that got away?
