New Zealand, 1867.
Cornered during a violent bank robbery in Nokomai, a gang of outlaws led by Tyler Colby - an American gunslinger trying to relive his fantasy of glory after failing as a gold prospector - shoot their way out. In the process they take hostage the local constable’s wife and his 14 year old son, Will.
Jack Rayne, the constable (a tough-as-iron ex-soldier), corners the gang. He calls out Tyler, who feigns surrender but instead murders Jack’s wife and - for the safe release of Will - extracts an oath from Jack, swore on the body of his wife, that he will let Tyler escape and never face him down. Tyler let’s Will go and the outlaws ride on, but not before Jack tells Tyler he’s made one mistake. If he had been Tyler, he would have killed the boy (Will) and died in glory.
As Will takes in the impact of his father’s words, and mourns the loss of his mother, Jack sets out after the outlaws seeking vengeance. However, the cat and mouse game that is reducing the outlaw gangs numbers is drastically changed when Will joins in the hunt against his father’s wishes, and is then recaptured by Tyler.
But can Jack keep his word to Tyler, reconcile himself with his son and prove he is more of a man than Tyler, especially when Tyler holds a gun against Will’s head?
