Christian is a 22 year old career thief from South Auckland. He trusts and cares for noone but himself, and lives from day to day on whatever he can steal.

One day, when a dealer pays him less for a stolen laptop than he feels it is worth, he takes his revenge by stealing a small and bedraggled terrier tied to the dealer's front gate.

He takes a liking to the badly mistreated dog, seeing in it a kindred spirit. He names the dog, "Jake the Muss". Jake responds well to Christian's care and soon proves to be a clever and well-trained dog. Christian starts taking him on his, "jobs" and Jake becomes a most useful partner in crime.

But Christian finds his lifestyle doesn't fit that well with caring for another, even if it's just a dog. The dealer, for one, is unhappy about being ripped off and Christian is dodging both him and his mates. And when his crimes and the police start to catch up with him, Christian has to choose between throwing Jake to the wolves or facing up to the real cost of his crimes...
