Imagine Jurassic Park, but with gorgeous women instead of Dinosaurs and horny nerds instead of scientists and everything on a low budget. That’s Mermonster!
Meet John and Julie. A couple of nerds who work together as low-budget comic book artists in Wellington. She is very talented; he isn’t. She makes the drawings. He makes the scripts. The poor guy really sucks badly when it comes to writing stories, but he truly believes that they are a good team. He is obsessed with stories about clones. Can’t seem to write anything that doesn’t have a clone in it. No one understands why Julie still works with John when she could work anywhere. Well, because secretly she loves him to death, that’s why.
A nerdy friend they haven’t seen for a while, Fernando, who inherited a fortune, invites John and Julie to go with him and a bunch of nerds on a cruise ship to a “secret location” where they are going to see something “truly spectacular”. It turns out that Fernando and the nerds brought an old story of John and Julie’s to life: a story called Mermaid Paradise, where a bunch of nerds clone their dream girls and hide them on a secret island. When John and Julie arrive on the island they discover – much to John’s delight and Julie’s horror – that Fernando has managed to clone John’s dream girl from high school.
But the clone’s beauty is only skin deep, and when a genetic mutation causes them to transform from stunning lovers into horrifying beasts hungry for nerd meat, it becomes clear to the nerds that not all of them will leave the island alive, if any! Will John and Julie manage to escape their own creation? And will John ever realize that Julie loves him? And does he love her back? Vote for Mermonster and you will find out! ☺
