In a small New Zealand rural village, locals claim descent from Pookea, the Poo Jumper. In every generation for more than 1000 years, a male heir born to the Chief succeeds to the title.
The time is now. The Chief's eldest son, Poorourangi, fathers a boy named Poo.
Grief-stricken, his father leaves him to be raised by his grandparents. His grandfather who is the Chief, refuses to acknowledge Poo as the inheritor of the tradition and claims he is of no use to him. But his grandmother sees more than a broken line, she sees a child in desperate need of love.
Meanwhile, deep within the farm, a massive herd of cows is responding, drawn towards Poo and their twin destinies.
When a cow becomes stranded in a paddock, Zae is sure this signals an apocalyptic end to his tribe. He is the only person prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the people. The Poo Jumper.
