1983. Rom Houben is a 24-year-old living in a small town who is happy spending his days playing PacMan at the local arcade, drinking beer in the sun and shooting guns in his back yard, until a brutal car accident places him in a waking coma.
Unable to communicate, and thought to be in a total vegetative state, Rom is trapped in a living nightmare, an invisible prisoner in his own body. As the days become months, and the months become years, Rom retreats into a dark and surreal fantasy world, where the thread that holds his sanity together becomes thinner by the day.
But as the search for his freedom takes him deeper into his own mind and further away from reality, Rom discovers his hardest task may be escaping from himself.
Based on the True Story of Rom Houben, a man trapped in a waking coma unknowingly for 23 years.
