In the not too distant future internet addiction is an increasing problem. Everyone in the world has two personalities, virtual and reality. These virtual lives co-exist alongside of our real lives but neither share experiences nor emotions. For years our virtual personas have forbidden the world from viewing our real personality. The real world has become cold, mundane and desolate, whilst our online lives are exciting and filled with endless opportunity. “Alternate Endings” is a game that has become a viral sensation around the world, where people can live the life they could have lived. A shy, lonely internet programmer, Jay, spends an increasing amount of time online, absorbed in his avatar from “Alternate Endings”. His online avatar Jack is a confident, narcissistic playboy involved in a life of high-priced escorts, drugs and crime, in every way Jay’s polar opposite. Jay’s search for immortality for his avatar results in him plugging himself into the game, but this unfortunate incident ends up syncing his two personas together. For Jay the two worlds merge into one, with the two personalities now struggling against one another. Jack's personality slowly starts to take over and control his creator, forcing Jay to fight for both his mind and body. Howeverr, Jay is not the only one; Squads of hackers will go to any length to obtain jack’s ‘king-pin’ status in the game even if it means Jay’s life. Jay must defend himself against Jack and the hackers if he is to remain alive, and in the end he will be forced to overwrite himself in the search for reality.
