TANGAROA - GOD OF THE SEA

A “GAA” FILM
WRITTEN BY Anastasia Globa

This story begins when an earthquake happens in one distant New Zealand city. As a result of the disaster, a nine year old boy, called Tangaroa gets hit by a fallen tree. He is found unconscious with a photo of his favorite rugby player in hand, and brought to a local hospital. Doctors do not know how long it will take him to recover, and are not at all positive about his chances to wake up. His family nevertheless believes that Tangaroa is a strong boy, and will soon get better. Each day they come and talk to him, they read to Maori folk tales to Tangaroa from the book that his grandmother gave to him.
Somehow he is able to hear these stories, however, his vision of a reality is changed as he is trapped inside his unconscious body. Inside his long lasting dream he appears to be in the world (of Maori folklore). It is the land of magic, wizards, adventures and wonders. This Land is a beautiful but dangerous place - especially after the God of the sea (the namesake of the boy) Tangaroa gets mad, that someone else has the same name as he. The God of the sea tries to capture and punish the boy forcing him to get brave and creative to overcome all difficulties in order to survive in this new mysterious land.
Luckily, small Tangaroa has a friend in this magical world. It appears to be a huge man from the warrior clan named Wiremu, who looks exactly like Tangaroa’s favorite rugby player. Together with Wiremu they have to overcome a great deal of difficulties to find the way home (their adventures follow the folk tales in the Maori book). Will Tangaroa succeed, and wake up in the real world? we will know soon…
