The Damned Enlightened is a black comedy loosely based on the myth of Icarus set in a modern context, where Icarus is a struggling musician who succumbs to the pitfalls of life. Moving to the city to work in a trendy bar and to try “make” it in a band Icarus finds himself flying too close to the sun. Ensnared by the sex, drugs & rock n roll lifestyle Icarus’ wings begin to melt and he falls into a spiral of depression and identity crisis. Now Icarus must redefine himself, pick up the pieces and overcome the voices in his head. Battling thoughts of suicide and social stigmatization Icarus must learn to fly again, only this time without wings. This story is an example of hubris and challenges commonly held preconceptions about mental illness
