Guy Pigden and Harley Neville are aspiring writer/actors looking for their big break. They specialize in making funny Internet sketches for YouTube and getting booed off stage at open mic nights. Their dubious reputation begins to spread resulting in a documentary crew offering to film their quest for greatness.
Guy at the age of 28 lives at home with his parents, while Harley lives outside their house in a van. Guy is having a hard time getting motivated to come up with new comedy ideas, with his writing sessions being frequently interrupted by his masturbation sessions, the results… sticky and disappointing. And now Guy’s dad is pressuring him to move out of the house. Meanwhile Harley’s girlfriend has just broken up with him. Harley takes the news badly, leading to heavy drinking and being fired from his job at Trackside.
But things start looking up for the duo when their latest cheesy Internet video goes viral on YouTube (a parody song titled: I’m Bringing Hairy Back). This brings them to the attention of super producer TREVOR FORD who stops using the sitcom script they submitted to him as a door-stop and actually reads it. He immediately LOVES the concept and miraculously he even wants them to star in it!
Trying to capitilise on the success of Flight of the Conchord’s the sitcom becomes a shoddy rip off, with Guy and Harley portraying struggling white rappers who burst into comedic rhyme. Guy and Harley film the difficult first episode and success seems all but guaranteed with a possible hit single on iTunes (dubiously titled: Nigga what?!) to boot. That is until the show debuts to violent critical and commercial backlash and the documentary crew capture the ugly and sometimes hilarious unraveling of Guy and Harley’s budding careers….
