The Sideroom

A “Max Volt Productions” FILM
WRITTEN BY Mark Robertson & Hans Hammonds

A Maori, some Pakehas, an Asian homestay, and an imaginary Luchador's quest to get off the dole and save the universe.

In a modest two bedroom beige granny flat reminiscent of the type built in small New Zealand meat-works towns in the 1950’s, two friends aren't doing much.

Mark fears growing old and has little patience for anything except instant gratification. Josh's only active quest is for glorious and safe mediocrity.

The show begins when Mark and Josh's financial lifeline is cut. To avoid any practical solution they travel through magical worlds that are animated and dreamlike. Forced to find a new source of income they bypass all logic, making the unusual decision to take on an Asian homestay, Ling Ling - compounding their problems further with an extra mouth to feed. However it is revealed soon enough that Ling Ling is far from your typical homestay student and here to change the boy's lives for ever.

A Divine set of circumstances has set in motion the wheels of adventure and intrigue.

Traveling through The Sideroom, Mark, Josh and Ling Ling command an intergalactic war for leadership of the New World. The unfolding events take our heroes on a journey deep under the ocean to the earth's core, across galaxies, into ancient Aotearoa, mafia circles and Ling Ling's womb.

Narrated by Sam Hunt.
