Transplacement. The technology of the future. A person is scanned on the departure point and meticulously assembled at their destination – or at least, that's how it's supposed to work. But when the first human test subject, Adam McMillan, awakens, he finds things have gone catastrophically wrong – during his week-long delay, everyone associated with the experiment has been killed.
Now, wracked with debilitating headaches and on the run from an unknown aggressor, Adam finds an unlikely ally in Terry Moor, the representative of an uncaring Government. With Terry's help, Adam begins the struggle to unravel the mystery surrounding the failed experiment. Why did he spend a week in a near coma? What's causing his headaches? And, most importantly, who is hunting him, and why?
But in the end, Adam's greatest enemy may be his own mind, as he is forced to face the greatest question of them all: If the Adam McMillan who entered the scanning chamber is dead, who on Earth is he?
