Wrongly Accused

A “Clan Gunn” FILM
WRITTEN BY Craig Brooks

This is based on the true story about Dennis Gunn, who was the first person in New Zealand's history to be tried and convicted by the way of finger print technology. On the 13th March 1920 the body of Ausgustus Edward Braithwaite, the Postmaster of the Ponsonby Post Office in Auckland, was found by his wife in their home shot dead.Three men had participated in the robbery but only one committed the murder. Police relied almost entirely on the new finger print technology to find their man by searching hundreds of prints both civilian and military. But did the police get it right and apprehend the person who actually fired the two shots leaving the Postmaster dead? Sadly it was 24 year old Dennis Gunn who paid the ultimate price and was sentenced to hang until death on the 22nd June 1920 at Mount Eden Prison in Auckland.
