What if the person next to you at work was a psychopath?
Ethan Brooks has it all. The flash car, the hot girlfriends, the new pad in Ponsonby. And he’s ruthlessly climbing the corporate ladder in the marketing department of a well-known Auckland bank. But it’s not quite enough.
Because Ethan is a sociopath, and three things still really piss him off. One, he hasn’t yet found his ideal woman. Two, he wants the top job to emulate his mother’s success. And three, he’s not yet fully prepared for when, as he truly believes, the next Auckland volcano strikes and the world turns to shit.
So when Ethan’s perfect woman does arrive on the scene – and she takes the position he’s been angling for – he doesn’t know whether to kiss her or kill her.
He tries both. Trouble is, she’s better at this game than he is, outmanoeuvring even him. That’s because she’s a corporate sociopath too, and she uses every trick in the book to use Ethan up, then spit him out the other side.
Ethan’s world collapses. He loses his job, his mother and the plot in quick succession. Which only goes to show you never know where or when that next violent eruption will happen…
