After years of struggling to keep his suburban restaurant afloat, things are finally looking up for Jeff Turner and the staff team who call him ‘Chef’. That is, until notoriously brutal yet acclaimed food critic (and Chef’s childhood tormentor) Simon McFarlane comes to town.
Their reunion goes disastrously wrong as a series of mishaps leaves McFarlane sick to his stomach, vowing to destroy whatever is left of Chef’s reputation while Chef drinks himself to oblivion nearly killing himself on the way home.
Barely hanging on to his sanity, McFarlane’s review pushes Chef over the edge and a reign of terror descends on the sleepy suburb as one moment of madness leads to the critic’s murder. Soon Chef spirals out of control while trying to cover up his crime - until he realises he has the perfect method to dispose of the body - butchery, braising and fine cuts.
A single act of desperation finds surprising success as diners begin to crave the Chef’s Special. Within days, bookings are rising, the reviews are positive and things are back on track - if only he can keep his supply of the Perfect Cut coming into the restaurant.
The chef embarks on a journey of murder and butchery to supply the ever-growing demand, while trying to perfect the blend of ethnicity, age and fat content. At first, the random selection of his prey detracts attention, until he finds the perfect product. By now, suspicions are rising regarding these suburban disappearances - including staff from the kitchen!
One night after service and a few drinks, Chef’s trusty sidekick & sous chef is beginning to put the pieces together and confronts him, leading to a whole new midnight snack on the menu.
