Everyone Everywhere

Continuing New Zealand’s proud tradition of producing “Cinema of Unease”, the film follows Maggy, a budding young professional with everything to live for, as she is confronted with a world suddenly excised of all living creatures. Or so it appears...
Inexorably alone, terrified and badly injured, Maggy must seek out anyone, anywhere still in existence.

If you scream and no one is around to hear it, do you really make a sound?

A “Andon Monk” FILM
WRITTEN BY Andon Monk & Catherine McHattie

In an age dominated by constant and persistent connection, typified by an interminable dance of mutual exploitation and codependence with our fellow man, our greatest fear has become one of personal isolation and dispossession. The boundary lines of our very beings are defined and delineated by the attentions of others. Without you, there is no me.

Maggy Cavendish is a young woman finally shedding the social anxieties of an awkward teenhood and beginning to blossom in her dream role as a junior copywriter in the Auckland offices of a prominent fashion magazine.

Until she wakes one morning to find that everyone, everywhere, has disappeared.

The streets are empty, the malls are deserted, cars sit abandoned on the roads - idling in perpetual gridlock. Yet somehow the power stays on, the phones still work and the trains still run on time. Television stations even continue to broadcast endless hours of empty studios to an audience of none.
It’s as if a cadre of unseen daemons have kept the motive forces behind the wheels of the world turning - as long as you’re not watching…
Maggy must cling desperately to the last ragged vestiges of her crumbling hope and strained sanity as she searches for answers, searches for her loved ones, searches for any other living soul in an abject landscape seemingly devoid of life, still echoing with the memories of an apparently imperceptible populace.
Will she discover the truth before succoming to the creeping, vertignous horror of eternal solitude? Can she survive in the world sans humanity? Could you?

Just keep asking “Is anybody there?”...
