Gary Lawton works in a small town steel scrapyard. One day at the end of his shift he is struck by lightning during an ominous heavy clouded storm. After spending a week in hospital with seemingly no injuries save burns to the soles of his feet, he resumes his everyday life but suddenly discovers he now has the ability to hear voices from his subconscious. They offer advice to him, suggest patterns in the everyday that lead to a better life for Gary and those around him.

When the next storm hits, the voices in his head turn to animalistic noises, which grow in volume until the first lightning strike. Gary feels a power flow through him that obliterates his consciousness and when he comes to there is massive storm damage all around. Or is it in fact damage caused by a monumental change to Gary’s existence?
