Bernard Sampson is a retired and wealthy private investigator with a crippled leg. Wanting to keep his investigations active, he researches and investigates unusual crimes and urban myths, and pays Nathan to engage the ones he selects, much to the disapproval of Bernard's son Trent, who resents his father for not involving him in his exploits.
Nathan has been sent to investigate another murder in a violent chain. The only clue linking the murders together is a strange tattoo on the right hands of each of the victims. As Nathan is investigating this link, he's approached by an enigmatic stranger who warns him not to continue any further, as the murders are “nature taking its course”. When Nathan refuses to abandon the case, he is attacked, and left unconcious. When Nathan wakes up, he finds himself with the same tattoo that appeared on the other victims. Still without a clear picture on how the tattoo is related to the murders, Nathan desperately searches for answers with the help of Trent, as they work together to uncover the Stranger's true identity, and why he's selecting his victims.
