The Midnight Men

Faceless and unstoppable, they are creatures of myth. The Midnight Men. They appear in different towns, targeting people seemingly at random. No locked door, no security system can stop them.

One survivor, biologist Noah Buchannon has found where they are striking next. But nothing has prepared him for the secret behind the Midnight Men.

History is littered with cases where bodies seem to not decompose. In Roman Catholicism, these so-called "Incorruptibles" are proof of sainthood. When his wife's mother's burial ground is moved, biological scientist Noah Buchannon finds she has the fabled 'incorruptibility'. With the help of considerable commercial interests, Buchannon discovers a gene responsible for the condition - which could hold the key to the treatment of numerous diseases.

But Buchannon's research is derailed and his world shattered when, one night, his family fall victim to The Midnight Men. An old urban myth, the masked, blind men arrives at houses at midnight and no locked door can stop them. They murder Buchannon's wife, leave him for dead and kidnap his young daughter, never to be seen again.

Buchannon turns his research skills to The Midnight Men, tracing them through history. They appear in various places, years apart, kidnapping people. But Buchannon discovers another link between at least some of the victims - the presence of the Incorruptible Gene.

His attentions turn to the rural North Island town of Kingston's Ford, the next target of the Midnight Men and home of the teenage grandchildren of Major Gavin O'Reilly, whose corpse was famously incorruptible after the Vietnam War. There he will battle not only the Midnight Men but their master - a mysterious entity known as The Nomad - and uncover at last the truth behind his daughter's fate.
