Seventeen-year-old wastrel Shane Kelly is an angry young man stuck in a dead-end country town. When he's not sniffing glue and spray-painting cows, he's usually found locked in the local police cells for fire-bombing hay bales and stealing tractors. Shane's only ally is lone Constable Trevor Hitchings, who knows that with the young punk's 18th birthday coming up, he'll have to reform or be shipped off to a real prison.
Under Trev's gruff guidance, Shane grows in confidence and reluctantly abandons his wild ways, swapping his molotov cocktails and home-made pipe bombs for shovels and ditch diggers as he finds work on a local construction crew. But when equipment is vandalised and livestock goes missing, the teenager gets the blame.
When a local farmer is mutilated, Trev realises that Shane isn't the cause of the town's trouble. Something has awakened an ancient, underground creature that hunts electronic devices, and as the locals disappear, Shane and Trev must put their differences aside to defeat the deadly tentacled menace. Inspired by the true story of a small town police officer's unlikely mentorship of a local hooligan, Alpacas explode and farmhouses are torn asunder in this outrageous horror comedy.
